As Barbie mania hits the UK, observant fans of the most famous plastic fantastic woman in the world have picked up on her relationship with Ken.

Social media has been awash with sympathy messages for Ken having found himself in the much-maligned friend zone - or as the internet has dubbed "The Ken Zone".

For 1000s of Brits, the dreaded friend zone is as confusing as Barbie stepping into the real world.

In a poll from dating app Findingtheone.com, 57% of daters admitted to putting a potential partner into the friend zone - with 63% citing "not attracted to them" as the most common reason.

Barbie and her real-world gal pals call the shots according to the research, with women more likely (68%) to friend zone someone than men (32%).

As thousands of Brits walk out of the cinema after watching Barbie World and ask, "is that me in the Ken Zone?", resident dating expert Sylvia Linzalone at Findingtheone.com has shared her top 5 top tips on how to rollerblade your way out of the friend zone - and give yourself a shot at love.

DON'T RUSH IT

If it's early days in the friend zone, then don't panic and rush something that might needlessly stop you seeing each other. There's time to allow the friendship to develop, and it might just happen naturally.

DRESS TO IMPRESS

We all know how easy it is to start chucking on hoodie and sweatpants once you're in the friend zone but if you want to change the dynamic in the relationship and raise some eyebrows, it's time to make more effort with our appearance. And let the compliments roll in...

PLAY HARDER TO GET

Yes, this age-old tactic can also be rolled out when you're already friends with someone you like. Showing less interest and let them come to you is a sure-fire way to move out of the friend zone fast and find out where you stand.

EXPLORE OTHER OPTIONS

Whilst you're in the friend zone, there's no reason to shut yourself off from meeting other people. Creating a bit of competition and maybe even a few hints of jealousy from the person you've befriended is a good way to get things moving.

BE HONEST

Plastic is fantastic in Barbie World, but if you want to tear the band aid off then just be honest - put it all on the line - and see what he or she says. What's the worst that can happen?

Findingtheone.com is the new dating app that believes in real life meets and pulling you out of the friend zone. To mark the launch of Barbie World weekend, the app is offering lifetime memberships to anyone with the name "Ken".

Linzalone added: "We know thousands of Brits will be questioning if they're in the Ken Zone this weekend. We're so confident in our match-making abilities we're even offer money back if we don't find you the one - and our offer to all the Ken's out there should be taken advantage of."
