Minnesota Vikings statement as rookie Jordan Addison caught speeding at 140mph
The Minneesota Vikings are ‘gathering additional information’ before dealing with rookie Jordan Addison after the wide receiver was pulled over for speeding.
In the early hours of Thursday morning, Addison - a first-round pick back in April - was pulled over by Minnesota State Patrol for speeding in his Lamborghini Urus. He was clocked driving 140 miles per hour in a zone where the limit was just 55mph.
According to the incident report, Addison was pulled over by State Highway Patrol shortly after 3am on Thursday morning while travelling down the I-94 in St. Paul. The trooper made a traffic stop and identified Addison as the driver.
The 21-year-old was then issued a citation for speed and reckless driving after being found heading eastbound while travelling 85mph over the speed limit. The investigation remains open.
On Thursday afternoon, the Vikings released a statement after the incident report was made public. The NFC North franchise said: “We are aware of last night's traffic incident involving Jordan Addison and are gathering additional information.”
Joe Burrow backs Patrick Mahomes after Kansas City Chiefs reach Super BowlSafe driving is a major concern for the NFL after former Las Vegas Raiders receiver Henry Ruggs III killed a 23-year-old and her dog in a brutal high speed car crash in Las Vegas. In May, Ruggs pleaded guilty to driving his sports car while drunk at speeds up to 156mph before causing the horrific crash.
Addison caught 100 passes for 1,593 and 17 touchdowns for Pittsburgh in 2021 and then transferred to USC in 2022, recording 59 catches for 875 yards and eight scores. He is expected to start opposite All-Pro receiver Justin Jefferson, although he has been dealing with an undisclosed injury since the Vikings drafted him earlier this year.
When asked about the injury issue, Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell said: “We're being overly cautious with him right now. Something that popped up toward the end of rookie minicamp. Nothing serious at all. Kind of a day-to-day thing that we're working through.”
Minnesota selected Addison with the 23rd overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. The Vikings begin training camp next week.
