Noel Gallagher compares 'offensive' Adele to Cilla Black as he savages her songs
Noel Gallagher has taken aim at global icon Adele and compared the award-winning singer-songwriter to the late Cilla Black.
The former Oasis singer, 56, branded the mum-of-one's back catalogue of songs "f***ing s**t" and declared he finds Adele career "offensive" - revealing how he feels the music icon can improve.
Noel also took a swipe at Lewis Capaldi during a recent podcast interview, as the Scottish singer takes a break from gigging in order to protect his mental health.
"F***k off, f***ing hell. Name one?" Noel fumed when asked if he was a fan of Adele's hit songs on the podcast.
He continued his rant on the Matt Morgan podcast, saying: "They’re f***ing s**t. It’s f***ing awful. It’s f***ing Cilla Black. I find it and that whole thing offensive."
Adele breaks down in tears as fan shows her photo of his late wife at Vegas showAdele is one of the world's best-selling music artists, with sales of over 120 million records worldwide and four No1 albums to her name. Noel's old band Oasis have sold 75 million records worldwide, while his current act Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds' last album peaked at No2 in the UK Album Chart.
Noel continued his scathing review of Someone Like You singer Adele - claiming the internationally lauded singer could possibly win him over if she performed a song he penned.
"If I fall out of love with touring, I could see myself just sitting at home writing songs and sending them to my publishers. I might in the future. I’ll be saying, 'Get Adele to sing that. Don’t call until she’s done the guide vocal'," Noel mused, going on to add: "I want Lewis Capaldi to murder this song, I want him to st on it from a great height. Make me rich’."
Adele isn't the first female peer Noel has taken aim at over the years, with Jade Thrilwall delivering a savage comeback when the dad-off-three made derogatory comments regarding the Geordie singer's band Little Mix in 2021. Following the girl group's historic win at The Brit Awards in May that year, the Oasis star decided to offer his opinion on the Little Mix ladies becoming the first ever all-female act to take home the British Group gong.
Noel claimed that the award-winning girl band are "not in the same league as Oasis" and suggested that their record-breaking win highlighted a problem within the music scene. While appearing on an episode of Never Mind the Buzzcocks a few months on from Noel's comments, Little Mix star Jade addressed the unsolicited criticism from the ageing rocker.
As the 30-year-old was quizzed on the revived series about Noel slagging her and bandmates Perrie Edwards and Leigh-Ann Pinnock off, Jade recalled: "Noel did [slag us off]. "Something about that we were undeserving of the Brit Award because we’re women and don’t - well we do write music - but he thinks we don’t write music."
"Yeah, shame really," the award-winning singer continued. "Because you know, we are definitely the most successful girl group in the country, but he’s not even the most successful performer in his family!"
