A beach bistro which looks out across an enchanting bay has been likened to Lake Garda, despite being hundreds of miles away in the UK.

Torquay and the dreamy Italian spot not seem like the most obvious twin locations at first, but they may have more in common than you think.

Three Degrees West, a new restaurant on Oddicombe Beach, is Spanish-themed with a fine tapas and wine selection during the summer to enjoy with uninterrupted sea views, Devon Live reported.

Ryan Bickle, an employee at the bistro, described how breath-taking a place it can be to work, when the sun is shining on the Devon coastal town.

He said: "It's my favourite beach that I've been to in the UK. It's got the café where you can have a few beers and the scenery just looks like you're in Spain or Italy or something.

"On a nice day, it's unbelievable - the water is like glass like it is today, and when the sun's coming over as well and (when) you start to get jet skis and boats coming down it's like Lake Garda in Italy. It's so nice."

Reporter Jake Holden took a trip down to the bistro see whether the comparison with an Italian destination known for its crystal clear waters and seemingly infinite Aperol purchasing opportunities around the sides was apt.

"It's hard to argue with him. When sitting out under the brand-new awning sipping a cappuccino you really do feel like you're on holiday," Jake concluded.

"The atmosphere which radiates from the restaurant itself is a relaxed one thanks to the happy staff and Mark's interior design with light colour wood panelling and plush white chairs graced with calm Spanish music.

"It has become a hub for the beach-going community in the area for the customers as well as the staff - who describe themselves as a family."

Ryan used to work at the café six years ago but left on another venture and is now back in between studying Physiotherapy at Bournemouth.

He said: "I thought 'Where else would I want to come back to?' The scenery and the people I work with are amazing - they're the same people as before so it just made sense to me."

One of those people is Laura Charlesworth, who has been working at Three Degrees West from the very beginning.

She has a lot of personal history with Oddicombe Beach, being the place where she met her husband when he used to work on boats just off the shore.

"It's such a lovely atmosphere to work here. We're like family we're so close and our boss is amazing - he's got a heart of gold," she said.

Owner Mark Buck believes that they have the privilege of the best sea view in Torbay because they are so close to it, with no roads or busy traffic in between, just the sandy beach down to the water itself.

Torquay is undeniably one of Devon's most vibrant and exciting seaside towns - and has even won likenesses to Turkey.

Those living in the area are particularly proud of its beaches, palm tree lined promenade, iconic harbour and bustling pubs and restaurants that draw in great throngs of tourists every summer.

The English Riviera as it is dubbed has long been a fan favourite holiday destination and a buzzing hive of activity throughout the summer months, and now it has been showcased in a TikTok video by user 6mxria.

In the clip some of the amazing views you’ll spot when exploring the balmy resort are highlighted, prompting those who've visited it to dub it the 'British Turkey'.

One person wrote simply: “Torquay is beautiful."

One of the most iconic and irresistible features of Torquay is its incredible coastline, with beaches including Oddicombe, Meadfoot and Torre Abbey Sands tempting great crowds on sunny days.

Torquay’s harbour is the perfect place for visitors stroll and admire the array of boats and sea views, before settling in to one of the selection of cafes, restaurants, and bars offering delicious seafood dishes.

The town also provides ample opportunities for outdoor activities. Visitors can explore the scenic South West Coast Path, which offers breath-taking views of the coastline and access to hidden coves and sandy beaches.

A new study of The Met Office weather records highlighted that South Devon - Torbay specifically - is the UK’s most reliably warm and sunny holiday destination.

Researchers found it offers holidaymakers the best combination of hot and sunny weather, with a high number of annual ‘sunshine hours’ and strong average yearly temperatures.

Torbay is made up of the towns of Torquay, Paignton, and Brixham and is often referred to as the English Riviera due to its mild climate and popular tourist attractions.
