Ferne McCann defends giving baby girl 'unusual name' as it leaves fans divided
Former TOWIE star Ferne McCann has defended her unique choice of name for her second daughter after giving birth earlier this month.
Ferne, who is engaged to partner Lorri Haines, gave birth to a baby girl and is already a mum to daughter Sunday. Proud parents Lorri and Ferne have named their new addition Finty Francis Haines-McCann.
The 32-year-old from Essex opened up on Instagram about the special name choice for her second child as she explained her choice to her three million followers and defended it saying she knew it would "split hairs" with some people disliking it because it wasn't "popular".
Speaking to her three million followers via Instagram stories, Ferne explained: "Now the name... I knew it was going to split some hairs but I just think if you go for a popular name, an unusual name, whatever name you go for, the's always going to be a few people that won't like it. That's just the way it is.
"But we all grow into our names and she's such a little Finty."
Greggs, Costa & Pret coffees have 'huge differences in caffeine', says reportShe added: "Also... let's face it. I couldn't have gone for a bog standard name because it had to go with Sunday.
"I named my daughter after a day of the week...Wednesday. Wednesday could have been a vibe."
Ferne, alongside Lorri, Sunday and Finty, chose to reveal her baby's name in an exclusive interview with OK! magazine which was released this week.
Ferne admitted the name was on her list when she gave birth to her first daughter Sunday in 2017, as she revealed: "I don’t know where I got it from, but when I typed it in [on Google ] I saw Judi Dench’s daughter’s nickname is Finty."
Ferne continued: "I've always loved it and never heard it anywhere else before. I just feel so connected to the name – she came out and she was just Finty. I think she sounds like a character out of Bridgerton."
Explaining the sweet reason for Finty's middle name, Ferne shared: "Francis is my grandad’s name – it’s a nod to Grandad Frank."
The new mum also admitted she loved the names so much, she was hoping to give birth to another baby girl - joking she sees herself as "the Essex Kris Jenner with this army of girls".
In addition to baby Finty, Ferne is also a proud mum to daughter Sunday, who she shares with jailed ex Arthur Collins. Ferne was pregnant when she split from Arthur after he was arrested for throwing acid into a crowd in an East London nightclub in 2017. She has since raised Sunday alone.
Ferne and Lorri met in 2021, with the couple getting engaged last year.
