An 18-year-old was allegedly lured into a couple's home and kidnapped for a month - before breaking free and fleeing to a neighbour's home.

Police say that Jose Reyes and Jacueline Macias, who were arrested after a brief investigation, had restrained the victim and done a 'very, very, evil thing' to her.

It's alleged they sexually assaulted the woman after tying her up. Sheriff's deputies in Houston, Texas, say the woman had marks on her hands and legs as a mark of her imprisonment.

Constable Mark Herman said in a press conference that his deputies were alerted to a woman in distress on July 16.

When they had arrived on the scene, the woman told them she was held captive and sexually assaulted in a nearby home, showing them bruises around her legs and hands, where she was forcibly restrained.

She told them she was able to escape as the two men that kidnapped her had left the home. When she realised this she was able to remove the restraints and run to safety.

The victim explained to officers that she was lured into the home after meeting a man that invited her to his house. When she got there, another Hispanic woman was already there. "The whole script flipped almost immediately, and she was immediately held captive, tied up, and held in a room for approximately 30 days," the constable said. "We don’t know the exact amount of days but close to 30 days or maybe more than that."

The officer added: "At some point after they basically started holding her against her will, they began sexually assaulting her and other things, just a very, very evil thing."

The victim was treated by a crew at the scene but was later moved to a nearby hospital for continued treatment and forensic exams. More details of the case can only be proven after lab results come back. Meanwhile, the 18-year-old will be evaluated and provided with care after her ordeal.

According to Neighborhood Scout, 943,774 individuals in Texas experienced an assault crime last year. Although in general, Texas is top of the list for mass shootings, generally, the murder rate has gone down in the last few years, while property crime and petty theft has increased. Another site, KVIA.com has named Sugar land, McAllen, and Pearland as among the safest cities in the US.

Austin and Arlington are also considered some of the safest big cities in the United States according to a number of statistical sites, including the New York Times.
