Conor McGregor sparks alarm among fans with "drugs don't work" message

Conor McGregor has fans worried after sharing a voice note in which he sings The Verve's hit The Drugs Don't Work.

The former two-weight world champion is said to be training for an upcoming fight with Michael Chandler, which he insisted as recently as last week would take place within the year. However, he is regularly spotted partying and has stayed in New York where he is enjoying an holiday with fiancee Dee Devlin and their three kids.

McGregor hasn't fought since the summer of 2021, when he suffered a broken leg at the hands of Dustin Poirier in their trilogy bout. Since then he has bulked up considerably, but even a stint on The Ultimate Fighter against Chandler has yet to convince fans his comeback is on.

This morning, which would be the middle of the night in New York where he has been staying, McGregor shared a video of himself shadow-boxing behind a bar, with the caption "Proper Apple on the rocks and 3 pints of Forged Irish Stout comin’ right up." Within two hours, he was singing the lyrics "The drugs don't work they just make you worse but I know I'll see your face again."

Followers were quick to reply, with one joking that McGregor "should drop an album". But others were concerned about his well-being, writing: "Send this to USADA [the US Anti-Doping Agency, who test UFC fighters for drug use]." Another simply agreed with the sentiment of the song, adding: "Drugs are a helluva thing."

McGregor is infamous for tweeting out voice notes and abrasive messages, only to quickly delete them shortly afterwards. He has previously sent aggressive tweets towards the likes of Chandler and YouTube star True Geordie, and already today posted and removed a message mocking rapper Machine Gun Kelly.

The musician was seen in a video shared by a fan account where he was skateboarding, to which McGregor replied "watch out guys we've got a bada** over here." The pair have had a long-standing feud that dates back to the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards, although neither man has ever explained what exactly started an altercation between the two.
