Shocking photos show the complete change in appearance of a man who was rescued at sea after three months of being stranded on his catamaran.

Australian Tim Shaddock spent weeks alone with his dog Bella in the middle of the Pacific Ocean surviving on only rainwater and raw fish.

They were miraculously saved off the coast of Mexico after setting sail in early April with the aim of travelling to French Polynesia.

Dramatic footage of the rescue showed a thin and heavily grey bearded Tim with disheveled clothing - a far cry from previous photos of the sailor.

Earlier images of Tim reveal a much stockier and clean-cut man dressed in smart blue shirt.

While later photos show him appearing trimmer with a huge smile and donning another crisp shirt.

In what appears to be the most recent photo available of Tim before he went missing at sea, he has a neat goatee and looks tanned and healthy.

In the video of his rescue, Tim is heard telling the people on board: "I've just got fishing gear, survival gear."

He later explained to Australia's 9News: "I have been through a very difficult ordeal at sea.

"I'm just needing rest and good food because I have been alone at sea a long time. Otherwise I'm in very good health. I have very good medicine and I'm being looked after very well."

The sailor, from Sydney, set off on the huge trip before being hit by stormy weather two weeks later.

The watercraft's electronics were damaged, leaving him drifting in the ocean unable to call for help.

At the end of 2022, another man survived 20 hours in shark and crocodile infested waters off the coast of Australia.

The 31-year-old was found holding on to what remained of a dinghy after it capsized in what was described by police as a "Christmas miracle."

Queensland police senior sergeant Anthony Moynihan told ABC news that the man was not carrying safety equipment when he set off on his journey alone and so it was astonishing he survived.

He added that the man was in excellent spirits and not suffering from any serious conditions, despite having no safety equipment on board at all, no emergency beacons and no flares.
