Kate discusses 'hard' Wimbledon rule during cosy Federer chat, says lip reader
After two glorious weeks of tennis, Wimbledon comes to an end today with the glittering men's final.
And no doubt one royal who will be taking a huge interest in proceedings on Centre Court today will be the Princess of Wales, who is usually on hand to present the winner's trophy. Kate is known to be a huge tennis fan and has already visited this year's championships twice.
On her first visit last week, she spent time with eight-time Wimbledon champion and pal Roger Federer, with the pair sat next to each other on Centre Court's royal box. It came as the All England Club honoured the Swiss player, who announced his retirement from tennis last year.
As they settled down and watched the matches, Kate and Roger were spotted deep in conversation in between games, with the princess making some big hand gestures as they chatted. It prompted fans to wonder exactly what they may have been discussing so intently.
And a professional lip reader has decoded one of their conversations, which was shown during BBC's coverage of the tournament - and it seems they were having an animated chat about one of Wimbledon's most talked-about rules.
Kate Middleton swears by £19.99 rosehip oil that helps 'reduce wrinkles & scars'Players who land a spot to play at the All England Club must wear white - although the rules on this have been relaxed slightly this year. At the start of the exchange, the lip reader says Kate appears to talk to Roger about a player's attire saying: "But I don’t know if that was like bespoke or if that was off the shelf or a bespoke design.."
Roger is then thought to have replied by saying: "The problem with here [gesturing to the court in front of him] is that all the players might have something similar....yeah...so.
"Also you can see when they play each other, they are basically wearing the same outfit, you know what I mean."
According to the lip reader, this prompts Kate to say: "The same outfit", before adding: "I mean it is hard when you’re all wearing white, it’s hard to identify each individual person."
The lip reader believes Roger agreed by saying: "That’s why I was hoping they would bring back a little bit more colour, you know just a few more details, something exciting and just to add (pauses and gestures with hands) a bit more personality...yeah."
Kate and Roger's meeting at Wimbledon was the first time they had been seen together since appearing in a warm-up promo video for the championships highlighting the work of ball boys and girls.
During the video, Kate, 41, beat the 20-time Grand Slam winner when they had a quick game at Wimbledon. And Swiss ace Roger was so impressed he couldn't help gasping, 'Amazing!' as the royal served up her winning shot.
It is believed Roger and wife Mirka are friends of the Middletons with them attending Kate's sister Pippa's wedding in 2017. Kate once also revealed how the tennis star was also her mum Carole's heartthrob.
