Amir Khan is ready to seek help for his sexting problem after being confronted by his wife.

Former world champion Khan, 36, who married Faryal Makhdoom 10 years ago, was reportedly begging a model for photos while asking her to meet up with him.

The retired boxer's wife asked him: "If you have a diamond at home, why do you want to mess around with rocks and stones?"

And Khan, who retired from boxing after losing to long-term rival Kell Brook last year, has now come clean on the incident and admitted he makes mistakes when he gets bored. "Maybe I do need help to stop me from messaging other women," he admitted.

"I am willing to go to therapy to stop me sending texts to women who aren’t my wife. I think nowadays with mental health issues, any help goes a long way. It’s definitely something I would do. Things like that do help, so maybe it’s something to think about."

Faryal confronted her husband at their home in Dubai earlier this month after she heard about him begging a model for saucy pictures. "U look good on g string," Khan reportedly wrote in one of the messages. He also promised to delete any received photos.

Speaking to The Sun, Khan added: "The stupidest thing I did was to comment on this woman’s picture saying ‘nice’. I shouldn’t have done it. I have respect for my wife. I think I do these things out of boredom - I don’t think it’s that I can’t help myself.

"You get bored and start making mistakes. If I’m not careful, I will get myself into trouble - especially with the wife. She will end up saying, ‘I’ve had enough’."

Khan has admitted it's "not nice what I've done" but doesn't think his actions count as cheating. "It was just a few texts," he added. "But I regret doing it."

Khan has apologised to Faryal for his actions and wants to focus his energy on a new project after retiring from boxing. He plans to get back in training ahead of some exhibition fights and is also interested in featuring in some TV shows.

Khan has ventured into reality TV in the past, appearing on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! in 2017.

The 2004 Olympic silver medalist is one of the best British boxers of his generation after becoming a unified world light-welterweight champion.

Khan boasts a 34-6 record from his 40 professional fights and achieved big wins against Marcos Maidana, Devon Alexander, Luis Collazo, Marco Antonio Barrera and Dmitry Salita. As well as his high-profile defeat by Brook last year, Khan has also lost to global superstars including Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford.
