Erik ten Hag's first season at Manchester United was a success.

The Red Devils finished third in the Premier League and won the Carabao Cup. Yet with local rivals Manchester City winning a Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League treble, it's clear United need to be busy in the ongoing transfer window to close the gap.

That means bringing players in - with Mason Mount arriving from Chelsea in a £60million deal - but is also means getting rid of the deadwood. The likes of David de Gea, Phil Jones and Zidane Iqbal have already left Old Trafford, but who else could follow suit?

Here, Mirror Football takes a look at seven senior players who could be omitted from United's squad for their pre-season tour of the United States. Such a snub would surely signal the end of a player's career at Old Trafford...

Eric Bailly

Bailly has played just 70 Premier League games since joining United seven years ago and spent last season on loan at French side Marseille. He failed to make much of an impression in France, with injuries restricting him to just 17 Ligue 1 appearances.

Now 29, it seems only a matter of time before Bailly leaves Old Trafford. The Ivory Coast international has got just a year remaining on his contract and doesn't seem to be part of Ten Hag's plans. He's been linked with a move to Spanish side Real Betis.

Who do you think Manchester United should sell this summer? Let us know in the comments below!

Alex Telles

Like Bailly, Telles also spent last season out on loan. His spell at Sevilla was much more successful than Bailly's time at Marseille, as the Brazil international played 38 games to win the Europa League and earn a place in his country's squad for the World Cup in Qatar.

Yet Sevilla are not interested in signing Telles on a permanent basis and Ten Hag is unlikely to include him in his plans with Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw around. The 30-year-old has a year remaining on his contract and is wanted by Cristiano Ronaldo's Al-Nassr.

Brandon Williams

Speaking of left-backs, it's perhaps time for Williams to move on. The former England youth international made just one appearance for United last season and hasn't played regular first-team football since his loan spell at Norwich during the 2021/22 campaign.

Williams turns 23 in September and should be playing regular first-team football at his age. He has just a year remaining on his contract and could be snubbed for United's upcoming tour in favour of fellow left-back Alvaro Fernandez, 20.

Donny van de Beek

One of Ten Hag's biggest decisions this summer will be whether to give Van de Beek another season at Old Trafford. The 26-year-old midfielder has played just 34 Premier League games for United since joining the club from Ajax three years ago.

Ten Hag knows how to get the best out of Van de Beek after managing him at Ajax and the player's 2022/23 campaign shouldn't be judged too harshly considering the serious knee injury he picked up in January. Still, it could be time for him to move on.

Dean Henderson

Henderson's future at Old Trafford has looked in doubt since he referred to the club's treatment of him as "criminal" a year ago. He spent last season on loan at Nottingham Forest, a promising spell that was cut short by a serious muscle injury.

The 26-year-old goalkeeper is fit again now and could miss United's pre-season tour to secure a permanent move to Forest. His involvement in the trip to the United States will depend on whether Ten Hag can finalise a deal for Andre Onana.

The Cameroon international, 27, is close to completing a move from Inter Milan to United. But if the transfer isn't completed before their tour gets underway, Ten Hag will want Henderson to be involved alongside fellow senior goalkeeper Tom Heaton.

Fred

Mount's arrival is likely to signal the end of Fred's time at Old Trafford. The Brazilian has done OK during his five-year spell with United - playing more than 200 games - but has failed to hit the heights expected of a £47m midfielder.

Ten Hag is happy for Fred to complete a summer transfer but has slapped a £20m price tag on him. Fulham, Turkish giants Galatasaray and clubs in Saudi Arabia are interested in the 30-year-old, who has just a year remaining on his contract.

Anthony Elanga

Elanga is likely to leave United this summer after starting just five Premier League games last season. The big question is whether he completes a loan move or a permanent switch. Everton are interested in signing the 21-year-old, who is valued at around £20m.

Forest and clubs in Germany are also considering a move for Elanga, who has shown plenty of promise during his time at Old Trafford. Ten Hag already has enough wingers at his disposal for United's tour, allowing Elanga to stay in Europe to complete a transfer.
