The news of a man being charged in connection with the Gilgo Beach murders is just the latest turn in a mystery stretching back decades.

Rex Heuermann, 59, an architect, was arrested outside his Manhattan office last night and has been charged with murder in the deaths of three of the 11 victims in a long-unsolved string of killings known as the Gilgo Beach murders.
