Erik ten Hag is considering selling one of Manchester United's young stars despite the views of Roy Keane.

The Dutch boss has set about an overhaul of his first team squad this summer, signing Mason Mount from Chelsea in a deal worth up to £60 million. But he's far from done, currently haggling with Inter Milan over the potential sale of keeper Andre Onana, with the two clubs currently differing in their valuation.

Rasmus Hojlund is also a target, with the Red Devils turning their attention to the Atalanta forward after cooling their interest in Tottenham's Harry Kane. But due to financial fair play constraints the club also need to offload players, with David de Gea already out the door and the likes of Fred and Harry Maguire facing uncertain futures.

But one of the club's rising stars is now also the subject of interest. According to the Athletic, Everton are interested in signing Anthony Elanga, with the 21-year-old having found his game time limited last season.

It's not the first time the Toffees have moved for Swedish international, having also tried to take him to Goodison park in January. And now Sean Dyche is keen to add him to his squad following the signing of another name well known at Old Trafford, former player Ashley Young.

But the Merseyside club are not the only horse in the race. Nottingham Forest are also reportedly lining up an offer, after Jesse Lingard was released following an underwhelming spell at the City Ground last season, whilst Bundesliga clubs are also circling around the winger.

Fair to say it's not a development that will impress United legend Roy Keane though. He has previously waxed lyrical over the academy graduate who has scored four times in 55 appearances for the club since breaking into the team under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the 2020/21 campaign.

He featured heavily in the 2021/22 season, mostly under interim boss Ralf Rangnick, after which pundit Keane praised his impact: "I like the fact he likes to run in behind," he said. "I love that desire. You stretch teams, it’s very simple and very effective, you have to do it at the right times, beautiful goal (against Brentford). When they are sprinting behind you cause all sorts of problems, especially if you mix your game up, which he does well.”

The signing of Antony limited Elanga's game time under Ten Hag in the last campaign, making just 16 league appearances. And he is now seemingly no longer deemed as a long term solution at Old Trafford, having first joined at just 12-years-old.
