Kevin Mathurin has paid tribute to Emmerdale co-star Karene Peter with an emotional farewell message following her recent departure from the show.

The English actor, best known for playing vicar Charles Anderson on the popular ITV soap, took to Instagram on Wednesday to gush about the 31-year-old as she prepares for the next chapter in her career.

Karene, who played Kevin's on-screen daughter Naomi Walters, made her final Emmerdale appearance last Thursday after her character was accused of stealing money at work.

The dramatic exit saw the strong-willed pub chef, who first arrived in the Yorkshire village in June 2022, jet off to Ibiza with cash from Vinny Dingle after being encouraged by her dad to start a new life.

While her exit from the show will likely receive a mixed reaction from the Emmerdale locals, it appears her presence behind-the-scenes will be sorely missed. In one photo, Kevin can be seen dressed in his vicar costume as he wraps his arms around Karene for a warm hug. In another, the talented actress is pictured planting a kiss on the cheek of her on-screen father.

"Sadly, for us as friends and a team, we dealt with the goodbyes months ago," Kevin captioned his sweet post, which includes a carousal of photos of him with his beloved co-star. "I had to hold it down for no spoilers. But It wouldn't feel right to go on without acknowledging how much you are missed right now."

"You gave so much jokes on set," Kevin continued, before adding that her antics with Rebecca Sarker, who plays Manpreet Sharma on the show, was a "PROBLEM!" He also said that the "energy was vibrant" before hailing Karene as a "beautiful human being who knows her path." "I really admire that," he added. "Stay on it. You’re definitely heading in the right direction. PEACE MI DAWTA!"

Karene responded to Kevin's kind words in the comments section below, writing, "Love you so so much words can’t describe! Blessed to know you Farda. Missing you always." It seems the same sadness for Karene's departure can't be said for Naomi, who regularly received accusations of being annoying with her antics in the fictional Yorkshire village.

"Good riddance Naomi. Never come back. EVER!" one person tweeted, while another said, "Naomi was a dreadful character from day one. Glad she's gone." It was first reported in April 2023 that Karene would be quitting the show, less than a year after she joined. Despite only being in the village for a short time, Naomi had quite a few dramatic storylines – including a court appearance over a false accusation of attack – while she was there.

Karene's next project has yet to be confirmed, but by the sounds of it, she'll always treasure her time on the ITV soap. "Being on Emmerdale doesn't feel like work anyway, but Kevin makes it not feel like work at all," she revealed. "We get on very well – he's looked after me since the start and we have a genuine friendship."
