Reese Witherspoon has revealed her true feelings about her sex scene with fellow actor Mark Wahlberg in 1996 movie Fear.

The movie follows Nicole Walker, played by Reese, who meets charming David McCall, played by Mark, at a nightclub and the two fall in love with each other. However, things take a turn when David reveals his darker side.

A sex scene takes place between Reese and Mark's characters and while the experience wasn't great, the now 47-year-old, who was 19 at the time of filming admits that it wasn't "traumatic" but it "wasn't great."

"I didn't have control over it," she said looking back on the scene, which showed her character having an orgasm. "It wasn't explicit in the script that that's what was going to happen, so that was something that I think the director thought of on his own and then asked me on set if I would do it, and I said no.

"It wasn't a particularly great experience, I'm not traumatized or anything by it, but it was formative. It made me understand where my place was in the pecking order of filmmaking.

"I think it's another one of those stories that made me want to be an agent for change and someone who maybe can be in a better leadership position to tell stories from a female perspective instead of from the male gaze," Reese told Harper's Bazaar.

She also revealed that she requested a stunt double take over for the intimate scenes.

In the interview, Reese also opened up about her recent divorce from Jim Toth after an 11-year marriage. The pair announced their split in March with a joint statement.

"To be able to talk to people directly about what’s going on in my life and just share it in the way that I share great professional experiences or personal experiences, it feels much more authentic to be able to say things in my own voice and not let somebody else control what’s happening," she said.
