'Insensitive' place couples should never propose, according to etiquette expert
Choosing the perfect moment to propose to your other half can feel daunting, especially when it comes to thinking up the ideal spot to pop the all-important question.
Now an etiquette expert has asked lovebirds to think carefully about where they choose to get down on bended knee, warning that certain locations just aren't acceptable.
Etiquette expert Grant Harrold advises that a proposal should take place somewhere you consider "romantic" and that "means a lot for the two of you".
According to Harrold, proposing at a wedding, funeral or christening is an "absolute no", when it comes to wedding etiquette and "should be avoided at all costs" unless you want to take the shine off somebody else's day.
There is also one specific location Harrold would caution against - the aisle of an airplane.
'My girlfriend invited pals on a romantic trip for the two of us - I left early'Speaking on behalf of Slingo, Harrold revealed: "I recently saw a video of someone proposing on a plane and the man is down on one knee waiting for her to come out of the loo with the rest of the flight ready to get the woman's reaction.
"It's a highly insensitive way to propose. It's unnecessary. What if someone needs to use the bathroom?
He added: "Think of somewhere that is romantic but practical. It should be somewhere that means a lot for the two of you.
"Plan ahead and prepare for any situation that could come up out of nowhere. Personally, I think proposing at a wedding, a funeral, or a christening is an absolute no. It's unacceptable. You shouldn't be taking anything away from their special day. That should be avoided at all costs."
Harrold also advised potential proposers against putting the engagement ring in their beloved's food, remarking "heading to the local hospital on your engagement night" most probably won't make for the romantic evening you've envisioned.
This comes after TikTok user @mzzgina13, shared footage of a sky-high proposal, captioned, "love is literally in the air".
The clip in question shows a woman returning from the plane bathroom, only to find her partner about to propose as fellow passengers looked on excitedly, cameras at the ready.
Luckily, the now bride-to-be appeared utterly delighted by the surprise, however, loved-up individuals inspired by the stunt may not be so fortunate.
