Planning a proposal to your significant other can be a daunting prospect as you want to make it perfect for them in every way. But one man had to spoil the surprise and tell his girlfriend he was planning to propose on a certain day as she was fuming about being told to take the day off.

The man explained that he wanted to propose on the first day of spring to symbolise a new chapter in the year and in their relationship so he opted to pop the question in a botanical garden. However, his girlfriend was not happy when she was asked to take the day off.

Taking to Reddit, he explained that his girlfriend hit the roof and said she could not take the day off as she could not do that to her clients so the two got into a big argument which forced the man into telling her he was going to propose.

In the post, the man, who remained anonymous, explained: "I really wanted to propose on the official first day of spring. New season full of life/ a new chapter for our relationship and potential baby on the way.

"When I playfully asked her to clear that day of work, she surprised me by getting seriously upset. 'That's a lot of money I'd be missing out on and I can't cancel on my clients like that'."

He went onto explain that he told her to forget the clients for just one day but the pair then got into a huge argument, leaving both parties upset.

"It turned into a fight and I had to sort of just tell her I was planning on proposing to her on that day. She cried and started to get mean to herself," he said.

"We made up but I still feel bad for putting her through that and I'm still kind of salty she couldn't just give us a day off together. It was an absolute stunning day I had planned."

In response, many have sided with the girlfriend and said that if you plan a proposal you should plan around the significant other.

One person wrote: "You know what you were doing. The fight was escalating and you were losing because you had no real reason to ask her to take the day off. "

While another stated: "You're the one proposing. You have to plan around her. Not get mad at her when she tells you she'll be preoccupied."
