Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was left frustrated with Fabio Vieira as footage of the midfielder being berated by his boss makes up part of the club's latest video release.

The Gunners have provided fans with an insight into their pre-season training routine with behind-the-scenes footage of the players being put through their paces with a series of drills. However, it also showed Vieira being on the wrong end of a telling-off when Arteta lost patience with the former Porto playmaker.

Vieira played a poor pass into the feet of a team-mate who was already being marked and the ball put him under further pressure, which prompted a cry of "FABIO!" from his manager. In another clip, the midfielder is being told he's watching the game when he should be actively trying to create an option for his colleague.

Vieira desperately needs a better season this term after an underwhelming debut campaign with the Gunners. Purchased for £35million last summer, he has failed to live up to the expectation his fee commands so far.

He arrived injured and that ensured he was always playing catch-up, but after withdrawing from the Under-21s European Championship earlier this summer Vieira has ensured he is fit and available for his club during pre-season.

Speaking to O Jogo in March of this year, Vieira conceded that he found it difficult to adapt to life in England from the start but was quick to assure that he is "enjoying it" now.

"I got here injured," he added. "It’s always different for a new player to get here, to a new country, a different culture, everything is different. It was difficult, but after a few months I’m ready, I’m enjoying it, I’ve developed a lot and I’m here to help the team.

"When you get injured, you’re always one step behind the others. I think it’s only a matter of time, to be there, to help the team, to show my qualities."

While he was disappointed with him on the training ground recently, Arteta has publicly waxed lyrical about Vieira in the past.

“We’re really happy with him, I think he deserves more minutes than he’s had especially in the last two months," the Spaniard explained after a stellar Vieira performance away at Sporting last season.

"Obviously he had a difficult start because he was injured as soon as he joined so he required a bit of time to get back to the level that we want.

"You saw tonight he was one of our dangerous players, making things happen and he’s a player that I absolutely love."
