Alan Titchmarsh has been accused of 'ruining' a foster's couple's home in a dramatic episode of ITV's Love Your Garden.

The shows seeks to improve outdoor spaces for people in need and, having looked after 150 children over 45 years, Rob and Margaret Isdale certainly fitted the brief.

However, after Alan, 74, and his team turned the couple's drab backyard into a 'secret garden', viewers thought the space looked better before the transformation.

Alan told viewers: "I want this new garden to make them feel as cared for as the children who come to their home."

But not everyone was keen on the transformation, particularly the fake ruins made to look like they were from the middle ages.

Taking to Twitter, one viewer said: "Omg ! The 'Love your garden' people ruining that lovely garden ... with bricks and concrete! ! #loveyourgarden No thank you!" While another mused: "It’s too crowded and busy."

However, when Alan revealed his handy work to the caring couple, Rob and Margaret loved it.

In tears, they said: "Goodness me! It's the best I've seen it looking. Woah. Thank you so much. I can't believe it - it's just....."

Alan then revealed he'd found a the "ruins of an old abbey" in the garden to which Margaret replied: "Brilliant!" before Rob said: "I knew it would be special but that's extra special. Thank you so much."

The veteran gardener and his team then invited scores of the foster children the couple have looked after over the years to see the revamped outdoor space for an epic family reunion.

On last week's show, Alan was in tears after hearing about a dad's devastating diagnosis.

Love Your Garden got very emotional when the green-fingered star turned up to help a family transform their outdoor space.

Alan ended up fighting back tears after heading to Nottinghamshire where he met Daniel Bradbury, 32, and the rest of his family.

He quickly learned dad Daniel was one of the youngest people in the UK to be diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease and also had a special connection to Alan.

The presenter told the rest of his team while he was planning the space: "The other thing we must remember while we're doing this is that Daniel was a landscape gardener when he was diagnosed.

"He's one of ours isn't he.." he said, trailing off as he was overcome with emotion before beginning to tear up.

Composing himself, Alan concluded: "As one man of soil to another, I'm determined to give Daniel and his family a garden to be proud of."
