Woman kicks bridesmaid out of wedding as she arrives wearing inappropriate dress
A woman who recently got married says she ended up chucking one of her bridesmaids out of the wedding after she turned up wearing a "very tight, revealing" dress against her wishes.
The 27-year-old bride, who grew up with "very strict and traditional" relatives, had asked her bridesmaids to wear any style of dress they felt comfortable in, as long as it was peach-coloured and modest, so as not to offend her extended family.
While she admits she and her parents don't always agree with their family's opinions on things, the new bride tends to keep quiet to keep the peace and remain respectful.
One of her bridesmaids, Ava, is said to be "a very passionate feminist", and the bride knew beforehand that she wouldn't agree with some of the views held by her family.
Her fears were quelled, however, when Ava, who she has known since her university days, reassured her that she wouldn't say anything, and was just there to be a supportive friend. Unfortunately, things kicked off on the day itself regardless, after Ava walked in wearing something she knew would offend her relatives.
'I'm spending £20k on a new bathroom - but won't help my brother out with cash'Taking to Reddit, the stressed-out bride wrote: "Ava said she was getting her dress custom made and never showed me a picture as it was still getting made.
"At the wedding, she comes in wearing a very tight, revealing peach dress. My mother-in-law said she would handle it and kicked her out.
"Ava has said that the dress was her way of expressing herself. She is not talking to me anymore, but I genuinely don't think I am in the wrong."
She went on to clarify: "I called Ava's dress revealing as she had a tight sleeveless mini dress on.
"I also wear tight clothing myself similar to what she wore, but I don't think that is wedding appropriate, especially as I requested at my wedding for the sake of my extended family that we wear modest clothing."
Opinions on the ongoing altercation were mixed. While some felt Ava really should have chosen a better moment to "express" herself, others pointed out that the bride should have specified a particular style of dress beforehand.
One fellow Reddit user advised: "You asked her not to do something, she did it anyway, and created a bit of a sideshow on a day that's supposed to be all about you and your new husband.
"I get that she might disagree with your religious extended family. I get that she considers her fashion her way of 'expressing herself'. There is a time and a place for that, and that wasn't one of them.
"If she couldn't respect your wishes and your guidance for the event, she shouldn't have come at all. And if she really was your friend, she would have realised all of those things."
Taking a different view, another commented: "You gave the bridesmaids free rein over the style, you didn't ask her to describe it or send pictures, and I bet you didn't pay for it either.
'My sister tried to wear a wedding dress to my engagement party - I got revenge'"And you're expecting her to follow a tradition that you don't agree with, your parents don't agree with, and your partner and his family don't agree with."
