Former Hollywood star turned racing driver Franke Muniz suffered a hard crash on Saturday evening - but remains undeterred as he chases his NASCAR dream.

The former Malcom in the Middle lead crashed his Ford Mustang at speed into the wall at the Elko Speedway in Minnesota in scary scenes for fans watching on. He had a big impact with the wall but was able to emerge unscathed.

His first crash since joining as a full-time driver in 2023 saw him unable to finish the race for the first time in the ARCA Menards season. He had been in a good position being second in the points standings before the accident.

Thankfully, Muniz was able to quickly exit the vehicle. He has now provided fans with an update on his health and indicated he still sees his long-term future in the sport.

He tweeted: "I'm okay after that big crash. A bit sore. Really frustrated because we were battling all race in the top 5.

"I still know I have a lot to learn, but I know I belong out there in a race car. I’m no where near my peak. Thanks to my team @RetteJones30 for all their hard work.

"Can't wait to get home to my family tomorrow morning, I know that'll help make me feel better! Thank you to everyone who has supported me so far on this journey of fulfilling my dream."

Muniz joined as a full-time Rette Jones Racing driver at the beginning of this year after previously making cameo appearances as a driver in various events.

The former actor has impressed since becoming a full-time racer, completing the first six races he'd been in with five finishes inside the top 10.

Muniz recently announced that he'd be producing a new docuseries on his transition from the TV screen to the NASCAR circuit, with the show said to be titled 'Frankie in the Fastlane'. The show will follow his first season competing in the ARCA Menards Series and will feature behind-the-scenes footage of the NASCAR 2023 season.

Muniz had been a huge car racing fan throughout his life, making that known 22 years ago when he drove the pace car at Daytona 500 at the age of 15.

In 2021, he begun to take a career in the sport more seriously after competing in stock car racing tournaments, before impressing enough to drive for Rette Jones Racing in NASCAR.
