Arsenal will need to put their crushing defeat to rivals Manchester City behind them quickly if they are to retain their slight advantage in the title race.

The Gunners lost 3-1 in midweek to Pep Guardiola's side, who drew level with the league leaders on points, though Arsenal still boast a game in hand. But as the old saying goes, it's points on the board that count, and Mikel Arteta can ill-afford anything less than all three when his side travel to the Midlands this weekend.

Standing in their way are a resilient Villa team who have become a tougher prospect since the appointment of former Arsenal boss Unai Emery. Villa lost to City 3-1 last time out, but could provide a sterner test for an Arsenal team coming off the back of four games without a win.

Here is all you need to know about the match.

When is Aston Villa vs Arsenal?

The two sides will meet in Saturday's early kick-off at Villa Park on February 18, which gets under way at 12:30pm.

Arsenal won the clash between them earlier in the season when Gabriel Martinelli's 77th-minute winning goal quickly restored their lead three minutes after Douglas Luiz's equaliser, which had cancelled out a Gabriel Jesus opener.

It will be the first time they've come up against Emery since losing to his Villarreal team in the 2020/21 Europa League semi-finals. The first leg is the only encounter Emery has won against Arsenal in his career, with the other three meetings ending in draws.

Team news

There are doubts over whether Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey will recover from a back injury in time to face Aston Villa. The Ghanaian was a late withdrawal from the squad for the clash with Man City and was sorely missed in the middle of the park.

Speaking after the game, Arteta admitted he was unsure of the extent of Partey's injury and could give no timeframe for his return. Emile Smith Rowe is close to being involved again but will be assessed before the match.

Tyrone Mings is the only injured player who could return to Villa's lineup. The centre-back is pushing to be fit for the fixture but will face a late fitness test to determine whether he can play.
