A "bright, beautiful" 15-year-old killed in a knife attack was "just too good for this world", her heartbroken mother told mourners at her funeral today.

Holly Newton was fatally wounded as she made her way home from school in Hexham, Northumberland on January 27.

The cortege brought the market town to a standstill as her white coffin was pulled through the streets in a glass-sided carriage by four black horses in purple jackets.

Hundreds of mourners wore Holly's favourite colour for the service in which her mum Micala Trussler paid an emotional tribute.

She remembered her "chubby-faced" daughter as a newborn baby, her first nursery drop-off, and Holly's first day at school.

She was adventurous and sporty, and loved to dance.

"Some people just do good for this world and Holly was one of them," Micala told the congregation.

Mourners, many of them teenagers, placed a purple heart sticker on a white canvas beside her coffin.

The message on one bouquet read: "Sleep tight, beautiful Holly in the sky until we meet again. Love you forever."

Holly's aunt Jemma Green told the service in Hexham Abbey that her niece loved her parents endlessly, and adored her siblings.

The words of Holly's friends were read out; they spoke of her kindness, cheeky sense of humour and future plans lost forever.
