Royal Ascot got underway on Tuesday afternoon with day one of the five-day meeting.

The Berkshire course will host some of the finest flat racing horses on the planet this week, but there was frustration for Frankie Dettori who is looking to say goodbye to the meeting in style. The Italian remains a huge figure but missed out on several big opportunities in the day's three Group One races.

Meanwhile, Ryan Moore starred with a famous treble, and there was a new record for trainer Aidan O'Brien.

End of day one at Ascot

Well a frustrating day for Frankie Dettori, but plenty of drama and joy elsewhere.

Paddington won the Prince of Wales's Stakes to give trainer Aidan O'Brien a record breaking 83rd victory at Royal Ascot.

That was one of three wins for jockey Ryan Moore, who beat Dettori's Chaldean.

Also, Hollie Doyle became the first woman to ride a top-level Group One winner at Royal Ascot as Bradsell took the King's Stand Stakes. But only after a stewards' inquiry after the winner veered left towards runner-up Highfield Princess.

Triple Time, trained by Kevin Ryan, sprang a 33-1 shock under Neil Callan to win the Queen Anne Stakes.

Join us again tomorrow for live coverage of day two!

3. Charyn 33/1

Winning jockey: Ryan Moore

Winning trainer: Aiden O'Brien

And they're off!

Here we go in the St James's Palace Stakes.

Moore makes his prediction

Jockey Ryan Moore has been previewing the next race with Betfair, and how his ride Paddington will fare.

"You can obviously make a case for at least five of these," he said. "And we are only a short neck away from having the winners of the English, Irish and French Guineas in here. No one horse has posted a stand-out, scary figure as yet though, so the up-and-comers like Mostabshir and Cicero's Gift are right in the mix, too.

"I do like my colt, however. The manner in which he has gone from handicap to Listed to Classic success this season speaks for itself and he was dominant and powerful through the line at the Curragh. He will need to step up again to win this, but you have to love his progression and he is another who comes into this race in a very good place at home. His draw in eight is possibly not ideal but we can't change that."

Officials clear Doyle of wrongdoing

Here's how the drama unfolded in the stewards room.

Detorri to do it in St James’s Palace Stakes?

So our next big race is coming up at 4.20pm.

All eyes on Frankie Detorri and Chaldean.

Can he give the crowd what they want?

Result stands!

The stewards have announced that "the places remain unaltered."

Trainer Archie Watson looks a relieved man.

Jockeys give evidence to panel

Jockeys Hollie Doyle and Jason Hart are giving evidence to the stewards.

Hart has argued he and Highfield Princess were impeded in the final straight as Bradsell leaned in front of the horse. Doyle has said she tried everything to keep her horse straight and the victory margin makes it insignificant.

Tense times.

Stewards enquiry!

Hang on.....the claxon has sounded.

In the meantime, winning jockey Doyle tells ITV: "He's really relished it today and he loves this track. All credit to Mick Murphy who rides him out every day. He's made real progress."
