Sex and the City icon Kim Cattrall has cast her mind back to the numerous sex scenes she had to film for the show - explaining she always tried to introduce a new level of intimacy for each episode.

The 66-year-old British actress played sexually adventurous Samantha Jones across all six seasons and 94 episodes of the legendary HBO series from 1998 until 2004 - and reprised the role for the two spin off films.

And while she was the actress who stripped down the most to perform intimate scenes, she says she never stopped trying to find a unique approach to each episode.

And she also turned to legendary costume designer Patricia Field, who styled the show, for additional inspiration.

Speaking to The New York Times’ Modern Love podcast, Kim said: “I was always trying to find a new and different way for Samantha to fall on the bed.

“That was kind of a joke, but I was sincere about it because they kept it fresh, not just for an audience but also for me.”

She went on to explain how Patricia helped her discover a new level of intimacy for her character in one particular sex scene where Samantha made love without taking her shoes off.

Kim revealed: “These stiletto heels went up and, suddenly, it informed the scene in a way that she couldn’t wait to get to her partner, her new partner, which I thought was really fun and said more about what she wanted, who she was.”

Kim will be reprising her role of Samantha in the second season of Sex and the City sequel series And Just Like That... which begins airing this month.

Reports have suggested the actress will feature in just one scene - and that the contents of the scene are something of a mystery to the cast themselves.

Evan Handler, who plays Harry Goldenblatt on the show, explained that Kim filmed her scenes with a reduced crew and without any of her co-stars - who she famously has a long running feud with.

He said previously: “Apparently, [her cameo] was shot in the garage somewhere with no contact with anybody.

“So, the only place I have to welcome her is into my living room when it airs on television.”

Season one of sequel series And Just Like That... first started airing in 2021 - with the second season due to begin airing with a double episode on June 22 in the USA.

Sarah Aubrey, head of original content at HBO Max, teased the second season soon after the first finished airing, saying: "We have been delighted by the cultural conversation generated by these characters and their stories, set in a world we already know and love so much.
