Emmerdale fans were stunned when Caleb Milligan arrived in the village on Christmas Day, determined to stir up trouble and bring down Kim Tate.

Initially introduced as Cain and Chas Dingle’s long lost brother, viewers were gobsmacked when it was revealed Caleb was the son of the late Frank Tate, as his mum Faith Dingle had an affair with the businessman.

His determination to bring down his father’s ex-wife has led to him being pushed off a cliff, and Caleb was hospitalised with near-fatal injuries as the hunt continues for his attacker.

When news broke of him landing the role in Emmerdale, Lancashire-born William Ash confessed he wasn’t nervous about starring in the iconic ITV soap, as he was friends with some of the cast.

“I’ve met a lot of the actors who play those roles before. I knew Lisa Riley from Oldham Theatre Workshop, so it was less daunting having known those people than if I didn’t know anybody,” he told The Sun.

“Lucy Pargeter, too, I worked with her a long time ago as well. So the people I was working with I had a bit of a relationship with so I wasn’t as scared as probably I should have been,” Will added.

He started his career on the ITV show Children’s Ward, after a broken leg put an end to his dreams of becoming a professional footballer.

“My dad played a lot of football and played semi professionally and that is what I wanted to do, be a footballer, until I was 16/17,” the actor told Inkpellet in 2012.

Will then appeared on Coronation Street in 1987 as a boy named Spike who attended a charity event held on the cobbles.

And in 2002, he returned to the soap as criminal Johnny James, who tried to hijack Rita Sullivan’s car following an armed raid at a post office.

In 1997, he starred alongside Robson Green in the hit ITV drama Soldier Soldier, as the character Jack Stubbs, before landing a role on Where The Heart Is as Peggy and Vic’s son Stephen Snow.

A role in Clocking Off soon followed, as well as an appearance in BBC drama Waterloo Road - as science teacher and deputy head Christopher Mead from series 5 to series 7 - and eagle-eyed fans spotted Will in the Channel 4 comedy drama Shameless in 2011.

The actor played Christian missionary leader Jesus O'Toole, and visited the Chatsworth Estate in an effort to convert the Gallaghers and the rest of the community.

However, he was hounded out of town after Jesus and his followers protested outside Lillian’s Brothel and began targeting residents, leading to a violent altercation on the estate.

Will’s also had big screen roles, and starred in Mad About Mambo in 2000, and the gritty action drama Hush in 2008.
