Two 19-year-olds and man in his 50s were killed in horrific Nottingham attacks in the early hours of this morning, police said in an update.

A 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a deadly rampage in the city on Tuesday and detectives are not looking for anyone else in connection with the violence.

Barnaby Webber has been named as one of the two students who was tragically killed.

Nottinghamshire Police Chief Constable Kate Meynell, speaking outside a police station in the city, said that two 19-year-olds were stabbed and a man was also killed with his van also likely stolen from him.

She said: "Police were called to Ilkeston Road just after 4am after a member of the public reported that two people aged 19 had been stabbed and were unresponsive.

"We had a further call to another incident in Milton Street, where the driver of a stolen van had attempted to run over three people. As a result, one man is in hospital in a critical condition while two others are believed to have suffered minor injuries.

"The van was then stopped on Maple Street, where a man was Tasered and detained by police officers on suspicion of murder. A man in his 50s was also found dead from knife injuries in Magdala Road by a member of the public.

"At the moment, we believe that the suspect has stolen this man's vehicle and driven it to Milton Street, where he is then driven at members of the public.

"We are still in the early stages of the investigation. I need to determine exactly what the motives were behind this attack."

Detectives are working with counterterrorism officers to try to establish a motive.

Three people were hurt, one critically, when a suspect driving a van tried to run them over near the Theatre Royal.

Witnesses have described a horrifying scene on Milton Street when the van drove into pedestrians at a street corner and then fled leaving three people injured.

Lynn Haggitt was on her way to work when the white van pulled up beside her at 5.30am. She saw the driver look in his mirror and spot a police car approaching slowly from behind without its lights on. The driver then accelerated and struck a man and woman at a street corner, she said.

"He went straight into them, he didn't even bother to turn," Ms Haggitt told reporters. "The woman went on the curb, the man went up in the air, there was such a bang, I wish I never saw it, it's really shaken me up."

The driver then sped through the city with police on his tail, she added.

She said the wounded man appeared to have a head injury but was helped to his feet. The woman was sitting on the curb and appeared to be okay. A third pedestrian was struck on the same street, police said. All three were hospitalized, with one in critical condition.

The attacks occurred in at least three different places and the suspect was arrested in a fourth location.
