Doctor shares final moments of son 'ambushed and shot dead by dad'
A doctor in the trial of Alex Murdaugh has revealed the final moments of the alleged killer's son before he was shot to death.
The double-murder trial is entering its final days with the disgraced lawyer, 54, facing 30 years to life in prison if convicted of murdering his wife, 52-year-old Maggie, and their 22-year-old son Paul near kennels at the family's Colleton County home in South Carolina, US, on June 7, 2021.
According to pathologists, Paul was shot twice with a shotgun with the second wound hitting his head.
The shot was so violent it nearly left his skull empty.
During today's testimony, Dr Kinsey, an Orangeburg County sheriff’s deputy and crime scene expert, told the jury Paul was standing in the doorway when the second shot was fired leaving blood spatter on the door.

Dr Kinsey told the jury: "Paul’s arms were down indicating he did not feel threatened and may have been ambushed by the first shot."
He claimed any motion was due to gravity as the impact of the wound was so fatal it would stopped any voluntary movement.
The doctor told the jury the closer the shooter was to the muzzle of the firearm, the more blood would spray onto them.
He added: "The shooter would be standing to the right of the door and would have fired upwards. "
In addition, he said there was no way that the shot could have come from above nor was the wound self-inflicted, which the lawyer's defence has argued.
The doctor went onto explain Maggie Murdaugh's injuries and testified that she suffered two or three non-fatal wounds in her thigh and abdomen, and a further two fatal wounds to the head.
He said there is a wound to her wrist that may have been caused by one of the first two shots.
While the initial two shots were quickly fired from a distance of four or five feet.
This caused Maggie to drop down into a prone position on her hands and knees as the first fatal shot fired from behind went through her abdomen up through her breast, her jaw, and into her brain.
