A mum who survived a devastating lightning strike in front of her six kids claims she can now sense when a storm is coming.

Kimberly Krone, from Forney, Texas, US, was washing up a frying pan in the kitchen after feeding her children, then-aged from six months to nine years, in June 2009 during a huge storm.

As astonishing 1,200 lightning strikes were recorded in the city in five minutes and Kimberly heard two loud booms.

Moments later a huge lightning bolt came through a light in the kitchen ceiling and bounced off the pan she was holding and hit Kimberly in the chest in front of her kids.

She told ABC: "I picked it [the frying pan] up like this and I moved it over, and before I could even get it to this hand, the lightning came through the recessed light.

“I can remember the pain, I can remember the burning smell – I felt one fire, and all I could think of was I wish it would hurry up and end.”

Fortunately, her nine-year-old son Tristan came to the rescue and called 911.

He told the dispatcher that "lightning came through the ceiling" and that her mum was "hurting real bad."

A recording of the call was released which hears the distressed boy begging for the ambulance to come - as he pleads for his mum not to die.

Another bolt of lightning struck the home in different room and ended up blowing up the family computer.

Emergency services eventually arrived after sixteen minutes and Kimberly was rushed to a nearby hospital where she would spend the next three days.

The mum spent 26 hours in the emergency room before being hospitalised.

She suffered terrible seizures and her entire nervous system shut down as a result of the lightning attack.

Two years later, in 2011, Kimberly revealed to ABC News how she is now able to sense a looming storm - but it causes her chest to hurt.

She revealed: "I still hurt. My chest will get real tight when the storm's coming, especially the closer it gets.

“As far as a lightning strike, you're always going to be scared. You're always going to be nervous.”

She still suffers from dizzy spells and is prone to the odd hot flush.

In addition, the left side of her body is weaker than her right, she told ABC. The mum has not spoken about the horrendous experience since 2011.

She last made a public appearance in 2017 when she donated food to the Forney Food Pantry.

According to reports, she is said to be living in the area where the lightning strike happened.
