Scott McTominay has been the subject of rumours linking him with a move away from Manchester United for quite some time, but he may still be a Red Devil next term.

The Scotland international did not feature as much under Erik ten Hag in the heart of the United midfield last season, but that clearly hasn't deterred McTominay, who has issued a glowing revew of life under the Dutchman. Ten Hag has been urged to strengthen his midfield throughout has time at the helm, with many viewing McTominay as not at the level required.

With that being said, the 26-year-old has his admirers. Both Newcastle and Everton have been touted as a suitors of McTominay, who many believed would be keen on the exit to ensure he gets regular game-time.

However, the midfielder's most recent remarks certainly do not read like they come from someone angling for the Old Trafford exit.

"Obviously, the transition in terms of his [Ten Hag's] style is very, very different to some other coaches, but, as I say, that’s football,” McTominay told United's official website.

"It’s good, that’s the best way to be with football: open-minded and going into every game, if he asks you to do something, you do it to the best of your abilities and you try to learn it as best as you can. I think, for me, it’s great. I love it."

Whether Ten Hag is as keen on McTominay remains unclear, amid reports that the United boss could be willing to give his exit the green light providing their valuation is met.

If McTominay were to bid farewell to the club he has called home since the age of five, it would mark a steep decline from what was expected of him.

Former interim boss Ralf Rangnick once claimed that the Scotland ace could one day become the captain of United.

"He is an academy boy, his energy is amazing," the German coach explained last year. "He now also starts scoring goals and also with some leadership skills.

"I wouldn't be surprised if in a couple of years he would be the captain of this team."

Some would argue United could be losing a valuable asset in the dressing room by allowing McTominay's departure, but Ten Hag clearly doesn't rate the player quite as highly as his predecessor.

With that being said, reports from just two months ago claim that United still want a hefty £50m fee for their academy graduate, which may put off some of the less wealthy clubs monitoring the situation.
