A San Antonio, Texas, woman walked over to her neighbour's apartment. Minutes later, she was staggering back to her own, a bullet hole in her chest.

It was 2 a.m. Wednesday morning, June 7, and the victim's neighbour was allegedly blasting music, according to local reports.

The 31-year-old mother of three went upstairs to confront the apartment responsible for the loud music — but the situation quickly became heated.

An argument broke out, and the parties eventually found themselves in the parking lot.

That's when a third person — the neighbour's guest — approached and shot the woman.

The victim staggered back to her apartment, where one of her young children called the San Antonio police, KSAT.com reports.

Her three kids — between the ages of 3 and 8 — could be heard crying for their mother and asking why she had been shot. They have since been temporarily placed in the custody of relatives.

EMS transported the woman to a local hospital, where she underwent surgery. She is currently in stable condition.

Police indicated that the suspect fled in a small vehicle and have yet to identify him.

Authorities did not find a gun after conducting a search warrant on the apartment where the loud music allegedly came from. They did, however, find additional evidence.

Wednesday morning's incident was the latest in a string of violent incidences to occur at the complex, neighbours explained to News4SA.

"The reality, living next to them both, concerns me - and I have kids, imagine if this happened in the afternoon while kids are outside playing," shared neighbour Stephanie Araujo.

Araujo's sentiment was shared by other residents of the apartment complex who expressed worry over the uptick in violence.

The shooting was one of 34 disturbances the San Antonio police have responded to at Arcadian Apartments since April 1. There have been 139 calls total.

The victim's identity has not been released by authorities, and the investigation into the Wednesday incident is still ongoing.
