Jerry McGuire star Cuba Gooding Jr settles rape allegations case ahead of trial
Actor Cuba Gooding Jr has settled a lawsuit in which he was alleged to have raped a woman in New York a decade ago.
He had continued to deny the allegations and said through lawyers that the pair's encounter was consensual. They were said to have met at a restaurant in the city before going to a hotel.
It was claimed that Gooding Jr had convinced her to stop in his room so he could change his outfit.
The Oscar-winning Jerry Maguire star was set to be in court on Tuesday.
The trial in a New York federal court was ready to begin picking the jury before the news of the settlement.

News of Cuba Gooding Jr's trial settlement broke just as the jury was to be picked (Jefferson Siegel/POOL/EPA-EFE/REX)Just minutes after jurors were set to assemble in a courtroom, a calendar entry in the official court record said: "TRIAL OFF," reports AP.
It reportedly added: "Reason for cancellation (on consent): the parties have resolved the matter."
Until last week, the woman making the allegations had proceeded anonymously.
However, Judge Paul A Crotty then ruled she would be required to reveal her name during the trial.
In her lawsuit, she claimed the actor had raped her in his room, but Gooding Jr's lawyers insisted the sexual activity was consensual.
They also claimed the lady had bragged about their encounter to others.
The lawsuit sought $6million in damages.
It was thought that late last week the judge had seemingly strengthened the claimant's hand by ruling that he would allow three women to testify in the case.

One of those planning to testify had told police Gooding Jr had touched her without her consent in 2019.

Boyz n the Hood actor Gooding Jr was permitted to plead guilty in April 2022 to another misdemeanour in which he admitted to forcibly kissing a worker at a New York nightclub in 2018.
By steering clear of further trouble and undergoing six months of alcohol and behavioural counselling, he was able to withdraw his guilty plea and instead plead guilty to a non-criminal harassment violation which then eliminated his criminal record and preventing further penalties.
