TV chef Tom Kerridge has been slammed by foodies after charging £35 for fish and chips.

The Michelin-starred star - known for his appearances on Masterchef and Saturday Kitchen - serves the dish at Kerridge's Fish and Chips, in Harrods.

It includes battered fish and a handful of triple-cooked chips, or 'wafer thin fish and 8 chips', according to unimpressed patrons.

Kerridge boasts two Michelin stars and runs eight restaurants, including his chippy located at the luxury department store.

The chef, 49, explained: "This Market Day Fish is made with my light and crisp, gluten-free batter, served with triple-cooked chips. Matson curry sauce, tartare sauce and pease pudding."

Unfortunately, the "pretentious" offering has not gone down well with fans who criticised the chef's pricing.

"Ridiculous price to charge, especially with cost-of-living-crisis," one claimed. "Shame on them."

Meanwhile, a second thought: "Eight chips and a tiny thin bit of fish?

"This is pretentious b******s."

Another agreed: "Wafer thin fish and 8 chips. Telly chefs are all becoming so out of touch with Joe Public," and someone joked: "Just waiting for the re-mortgage application to come through and I'll be there."

Yet, someone countered: "Forget the price. This is going to be the best fish and chips you have in your whole life."

Elsewhere, a different commenter advised: "Just go to the chip shop and pay a fiver."

For reference, Whiteheads Fish and Chips in East Yorkshire - crowned the UK Fish and Chip Shop of the Year at the National Fish and Chip Awards, earlier this year - charges £10.05 for haddock and chips.

When Mirror writer Paige Freshwater visited the family-run business, she was left seriously impressed by the chippy's secret batter recipe. She said: "I strongly believe this is one of the best haddock and chip dishes I have ever eaten thanks to the light yet crispy batter and chunky fish and chip duo.

"The ratio between fish and batter was perfect - as sometimes you end up with more batter than fish, making you wonder why you even bothered.

"The shop uses their own flour - and it took three months for them to perfect the recipe, which is obviously a secret."
