Love Island viewers were left fed up on Monday night, as they were forced to restart or switch off the launch episode on streaming service ITVX.

Fans complained of constant glitching and buffering on the streaming platform, making the episode "impossible to watch".

One viewer admitted they had given up in the end and stopped watching, as others missed huge chunks of the episode.

As some complained of missing twists and the pairing up of the Islanders, others kept getting a dark screen as the episode stopped playing.

Taking to Twitter, several fans begged ITV to do something about the technical issues as they fumed over not being able to watch the whole episode.

One viewer said: "I’m watching #LoveIsland via #itvx & all it keeps doing is freezing and stuttering! why does this always happen when I watch it on ITVX???? I’ve turned it off now as it’s just impossible to watch."

Another tweeted: "I hate itvx. Bro why am I 40 minutes late to #loveisland because it was buffering for no reason."

A third fan commented: "itvx needs to FIX UP I’m already tired of your s**t," as a fourth said: "EXCUSE ME. WHY'S MY SCREEN GONE BLACK?!"

Meanwhile a fifth viewer tweeted: "ITVx immediately freezing. I can’t do another summer of this!!!"

It comes after host Maya Jama confirmed a double twist to start off the series, with a show first too.

Announcing she had "some news", Maya revealed the decision of who the Islanders would couple up with had already been made for them by the public.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain this week, Maya teased the shock twist, saying: "A very big surprise is that the public has all the power.

"For the first episode, you guys are going to decide who couples up. You vote and then we listen. It's a big decision to make, as soon as you see them."

For the first time ever, both boys and girls entered the villa as Ruchee Gurung and Jess Harding were joined by Mitchell Taylor, Ella and André Furtado as they got to know each other in one of the show's most flirtatious first episodes ever.

Meanwhile, Maya issued a warning to the latest batch of Love Islanders, telling them: “Don’t fall in love on the first day.”

The presenter – who is rumoured to have reignited her romance with grime star Stormzy after their split in 2019 – said her advice would be to play the field.

Speaking to the Mirror, she said: “When they lock themselves up right away, I’m like, ‘No, you’ve got so much time, know everybody’.

“Don’t fall in love on the first day. But if you do, fantastic, you might just end up making it to the end.

“Me, personally, I wouldn’t lock down with somebody on the first day. I would keep my options open.”

Love Island airs all this week at 9PM on ITV2 and ITVX.
