David Beckham says friend Tom Brady looks "bored" with the NFL legend set to become a minority stakeholder in the Las Vegas Raiders, amid reports he could become the first player/owner in history.

Brady, 45, retired from the NFL for a second time earlier this year, drawing the curtains on a legendary football career that saw him win seven Super Bowls. The quarterback won six Super Bowls with the New England Patriots and one with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Despite ruling out a return to the NFL himself, citing that he wants to focus more on his family and other commitments, it hasn't stopped rumours swirling that he could make another comeback. And Manchester United, Real Madrid, and England legend Beckham, who's a friend of Brady's, says the NFL great looked "bored" while meeting with Miami-based entrepreneur and businessman David Grutman for coffee on a boat in Sardinia.

Grutman, an owner of several high-end restaurants and is said to have a net worth of $55million, posted a picture alongside Brady with the caption: "Coffee talk." Beckham had another take. "Tom looks a little bored, to be honest," Beckham replied with a laughter and yawning emoji.

Commitments to the Raiders and a new Fox analyst role is what could be standing in the way of NFL fans getting to watch Brady throw again. "We’re excited for Tom to join the Raiders, and it’s exciting because he will be just the third player in the history of the National Football League to become an owner," Raiders owner Mark Davis told ESPN on working with Brady.

He will start his role with Fox in 2024 and it is said to be worth just shy of $400m. The deal will run for a decade, taking him up to 2034.

Brady's retirement from the NFL may be short-lived, however, with the Raiders facing a potential quarterback crisis just a few months before the season begins.

The Raiders gave Jimmy Garoppolo a whopping $72million contract at the start of the off-season, securing him as their quarterback for the next three years. However, injury woes meant he apparently failed his physical examination back in March, but the Raiders signed him to a contract anyway and gave him an injury waiver.

If he is unable to play, however, Brady could return to the gridiron and become the first player/owner in history, provided he receives approval from the owners of all teams in the league.
