Alan Carr is 'happy' after regaining 'control' after split from ex-husband
Alan Carr revealed he's now happy after regaining 'control' of his life after years of coping with his ex-husband's alcohol addiction.
The Chatty Man star and Paul Drayton made the decision to divorce "jointly and amicably" after three years of marriage and 13 years as a couple.
Their split came after a difficult 2021 for the duo - with Paul struggling with his battle with alcohol addiction.
Paul has since posted on his own Instagram page revealing he is currently in rehab for alcoholism, after a "challenging couple of years'" which saw him plead guilty in November 2021 to a drink-driving charge.
And now, Alan, 46, admitted his ex-husband's addiction "just got too much" to cope with.
'I'm spending £20k on a new bathroom - but won't help my brother out with cash'Talking about his divorce, Alan told The Guardian : "You come out and you think, 'Oh, I'm happy now, taking a bit more control of my life'."
Alan said that he now knows he was not an alcoholic, as he added: "I know now that I'm not [an alcoholic] and seeing [alcoholism] first-hand, I realise I was nowhere near becoming one."
He questioned his alcoholism when he reminisced about wild nights out, including a time he drunkenly attacked his ex and ransacked their hotel room before waking with no memory of the incident.
When the two first split, Alan and Paul released a statement on social media.
"After 13 years as a couple and three years of marriage, Alan Carr and Paul Drayton would like to announce they are separating," the statement read.
"They have jointly and amicably made the difficult decision to divorce and go their separate ways. We request that their privacy is respected at this sensitive time."
Earlier this year, Alan revealed he has been in his 'slaggy stage' during a chat on the Life's A Beach podcast.
He said: "I went through a divorce, and I'm in that slaggy stage now.
"I want to be a sl*g. To be a sl*g, you need someone to be slaggy with."
The presenter continued: "I went to Sri Lanka with two couples and I was single.
'My sister tried to wear a wedding dress to my engagement party - I got revenge'"I was in the single bed with the mosquito net and I have to play the supplement, it's like an ugly tax. And you're in the restaurant and you're paying... It's not fair."
