Chelsea pounce with brutal Leeds dig nine months in the making after relegation
Moments after their own dismal Premier League season ended, Chelsea were more than happy to pile on the pain for Leeds United via their official Twitter account.
Leeds were relegated from the top-flight on Sunday following a three-year spell in back in the top-flight, with their 4-1 defeat at home to Tottenham seeing them end the season in 19th place.
The Yorkshire club had hoped that they could escape on the final day of the campaign, but ultimately it was Everton who pulled clear of the bottom three as they beat Bournemouth 1-0, with Leeds joining Leicester and the already relegated Southampton in the Championship next season.
The devastation was a far cry from Leeds' fine start to the season, when they beat Wolves at home, drew with Southampton and then beat Chelsea 3-0 in their first three matches in August.
Leeds' Twitter account mocked Chelsea back then, posting a screenshot of the Blues' official updates of the match which quickly went from the excited 'Starting to assert ourselves!' to the more downbeat reporting of quickfire goals from Brenden Aaronson and Rodrigo.

Leeds interim boss Sam Allardyce had fumed at his players following the loss.
"It's professional suicide," he said.
"We prepare for games, but when you do things like we did with the huge errors, people like Harry Kane will take full advantage. We messed up again. Without stopping the goals going in we couldn't pick the points up.
"We wanted to go out with a sense of pride - but I just didn't see that. It's all about the basics. It's very sad this club is getting relegated, having worked so hard for so long to get back into the Premier League."
Leeds issued a statement shortly after the game also apologising to the club’s supporters for a “painful” relegation.
It read: “We apologise to our fanbase that the performances this season have not seen the club consolidate our status as we had all hoped.
“However, Leeds United remains in a strong position to build a team that can challenge for promotion from the Championship next season.
“We know things have not been good enough, we know we have to improve, but please be assured that behind the scenes we have worked hard to ensure that the past will not be repeated.
“Our focus is now on how we get straight back to the Premier League."
