Dwight Yorke is adamant that Jadon Sancho is on "borrowed time" at Manchester United after failing to make an impression since his blockbuster £73million switch from Borussia Dortmund.

The England winger, 23, is coming to the end of his second season at Old Trafford and is still struggling to silence his critics following an underwhelming maiden campaign.

United favourite Yorke, who was part of the iconic 1999 treble-winning team, has been seriously unimpressed with Sancho since he swapped Germany for the Premier League - and he even believes that the wideman's long-term future could be in jeopardy unless he can turn things around soon.

Speaking to Mirror Football on behalf of aceodds.com, Yorke said of Sancho: "Yeah, it's one of a mystery, really. He had so much potential and hope for the likes of Manchester United. Huge investment, really did an amazing job when he was at Dortmund.

"Somehow the transition from there to Manchester hasn't really worked out in the way that we all thought it might for him. [He has] really struggled, whether it's from a mental point of view, which seems to be well documented. He hasn't really lived up to the price tag.

"So yeah, he's on borrowed time, I suppose, if you have to be fair in many respects. He hasn't really produced the goods that we expect him."

Sancho has managed just five goals in 24 appearances for Manchester United this term - a far cry from the impressive figures he accumulated during his hugely successful stint in the Bundesliga with Dortmund.

Earlier in the season, talkSPORT pundit and former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor hit out at the winger's reluctance to attack opposition players and claimed that Sancho's penchant for passing the ball backward was 'annoying' three of his Old Trafford teammates.

Speaking back in October, Agbonlahor said: "Sancho, he gets the ball and passes it backwards. If I was Luke Shaw, I’d say: ‘Stop passing it back to me, I’m giving you the ball so take someone on’. At Dortmund he was doing it every week.

"His confidence is that low, does he feel like he doesn’t have the speed or the trickery to get past someone? He’s being brought off after 52 minutes for Fred. It just shows that they’ve had to play Fernandes up front for the last 35 minutes, Rashford went to the left and Antony stayed on the right because Sancho can’t perform.

"How many times do you have to play him? If you're [Cristiano] Ronaldo you're probably thinking: 'How many chances is this guy going to get?'. [You've got] Elanga, how many times is Sancho going to get the chance to play for Manchester United, because he's not performing."
