It can be really annoying when you're in a shop and your little one is begging you for something on the shelf. As much as you may want to say yes, you need to instill certain qualities into your child, and knowing they can't always have what they want may be one of them.

But what would you do if your child went behind your back and spent thousands of pounds of your money online?

One mum was left distraught after she noticed £2,500 had disappeared from her bank account, and when she managed to trace it back to her daughter, she was left less than impressed.

Georgina Munday realised that her 10-year-old Primrose had spent all the money as she recalled spotting "hundreds of transactions" and payment confirmations on her bank statement.

She told the BBC Radio Four programme You and Yours that she investigated what had happened, and Primrose had managed to change the password on her iPad to allow payments to be made while she was playing the online game Roblox.

Players can purchase clothes and accessories in the app, as well as being able to pay for additional games.

When she realised what had happened, she immediately contacted Tesco Bank - but they told her that they wouldn't be able to refund her.

They said because it was her daughter that did it "they wouldn't be able to do anything about it."

Hence why she contacted You and Yours, for advice, and after her appearance, Tesco responded to say they would refund her the full amount.

"We've carried out a further review of this case and have now agreed with Ms Munday that we'll refund her the full amount," Tesco told Tyla.

"We apologise to Ms Munday that this wasn't arranged for her when she first contacted us, and we've therefore also organised an additional payment to her as a gesture of goodwill."

Pleased with the way things have turned out, Georgina is now trying to warn other parents about how easy it can be for kids to work out parental controls or passwords.

She said: "Children are one step ahead of parents these days. We thought this Roblox game was quite innocent, it looks very basic. It's a whole world out there on this Roblox that we knew nothing about."

Roblox explains on its website that it does have a process in place for refunding requests on products bought without authorisation, saying it has a "robust policy for processing refund requests where there may have been unauthorised payments from a person's account."

The Mirror has contacted Tesco for additional comment.
