A woman has managed to make a worthy profit from her furniture-flipping side hustle, allowing her to pay off student loans and gain confidence while empowering women to achieve financial freedom.

Claire McCann has had great success with her side hustle of flipping furniture and in less than nine months, she managed to make a profit of $22,500 (£18,000).

It all started when she resold a desk while moving houses and realized there was money to be made in furniture flipping.

To pursue her side hustle, Claire invested in a lock-up and started buying and selling furniture in her spare time.

She adopted a strategic approach by targeting trendy and stylish pieces.

Her very first flip was a table and chair set that she bought for $65 (£52) and sold for $300 (£240).

She then stayed up-to-date with the latest trends and looked for such items online to purchase and resell.

Claire said: "The biggest impact for me is it's allowed me to pay off some student loans.

"But further than that it's just impacted my confidence and I've surprised myself. I never thought I'd be able to do anything like this.

"It felt so great to be able to enjoy and treat myself in things that were important for me, but my big target was empowering women so that they can have more control and more financial freedom."

Claire also found success in buying furniture in bundles, offering deals to sellers on platforms like Craigslist.

While Claire's side hustle required time and effort, she described it as "quite passive" as a significant portion of her work involved searching for deals online.

She would wake up early to check potential buyer messages and spend about an hour each morning and during her lunch break searching for items.

After work, she would answer questions from potential buyers and focus on what was trending. In total, she estimated spending around five to six hours a day on her side hustle.

To optimize her sales, Claire recognized the importance of styling the furniture she sold.

She would set up the items in her apartment, paying attention to creating an appealing setup.

Claire found that staging the furniture with a neutral background or trendy rug made a significant difference in attracting buyers.

She emphasized providing excellent customer service and ensuring buyers felt they were getting a quality product.

Although Claire had a passion for furniture design and styling, she resisted the temptation to keep everything she flipped.

Constantly rotating the furniture allowed her and her partner to enjoy different pieces temporarily.

Claire acknowledged that if she wanted to keep something, it was a sign that she should sell it.

Some notable flips Claire made include a West Elm leather recliner she bought for $250 (£200) and sold for $750 (£600).

She also managed to sell a West Elm media console for $1,700 (£1,300) after purchasing it for $650 (£520).

Two grey lounge chairs bought for $625 (£500) were sold for $1,300 (£1,000), and a yellow Joybird couch bought for $400 (£320) was sold for $1000 (£800).
