An angler bitten by a shark on Friday was the second such incident in the space of a week.

The 35-year-old man became the second victim of the 10ft beast just days after a swimmer was attacked on the same stretch of the US coast.

The angler was on a dock at Summerland Key around 8pm in the evening when the shark became hooked up and bit the angler as it was reeled in.

Monroe County said the man was taken to Jackson South Medical Center in Miami by air for treatment, but did not comment on his condition.

"The shark was reportedly out of the water and on the dock when it bit the angler," Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said.

He was also airlifted to Jackson South Medical Centre.

Kevin Blanco estimated the huge shark that bit him was up to 10 feet long and weighed over 200kg.

“He actually bit me twice, and it was probably around anywhere, nine or 10 feet, and about 500 pounds,” Blanco WSVN.

"He came out of nowhere, 20 or 30 mph, and I just see the big grey figure of him just there, and I see it every time I close my eyes, no joke.”

Kevin, in a stable condition in hospital, told NBC86 he was "blindsided" by the beast and spoke of the horror moment it sank its teeth into his flesh.

He said: "I just got blindsided by the side, my left outer thigh.

"I don't really remember the pain, but I remember the pressure and the force that he hit my leg with.

"It felt like I got hit by an F150. And I felt the pressure slowly closing in on my leg. Everything was going in slow motion."

His doctor, Dr Antonio Marttos, added: "The good thing is he didn't have any major artery bleeding or big vessel bleeding, so we know he can have a full recovery."

Shark attacks in Florida are rarely fatal, but not unheard of.

In the Florida Museum of Natural History’s International Shark Attack File recorded the Sunshine State experiencing the most unprovoked shark attacks of any state in 2022.

Volusia County proved to be the hotspot for attacks, with seven of the 16 total unprovoked attacks in Florida occurring there.

In May earlier this year, a young girl was bitten in the stomach, knee, arm and finger and was forced to punch the shark during the attack.

Ella Reed, 13, said the shark was "powerful" and she ended up receiving 19 stitches.

She told South Florida’s Local 10 News: "It wouldn’t leave me alone, so I had to use my arm and use my hand too, so it got my arm and my finger."
