Kylian Mbappe was less than impressed when he watched on from the bench as Kingsley Coman scored Bayern Munich's winner in Paris.

Coman, a product of the PSG academy, who scored the winner against them in the 2020 Champions League final, was again the difference as the Germans secured a 1-0 victory to take back to the Allianz Arena. Bayern were good value for their win against a French outfit who opted to start Mbappe among the substitutes.

The forward is struggling for fitness and was introduced after 57 minutes. He was getting stripped for action when he saw Coman open the scoring just four minutes earlier, with his annoyed facial expression underlining his frustration. The Champions League has eluded Mbappe thus far - and PSG face a tough task in overturning their last 16 tie.

Mbappe offered more of a threat as the Ligue 1 outfit went looking for an equaliser. Lionel Messi and Neymar combined with him in attack and it was the Frenchman who thought he'd got PSG level when he tapped home to complete a neat counter attack.

VAR would identify a marginal offside in the build-up, however, which saw referee Michael Oliver chalk off PSG's goal and Bayern were able to hold on. PSG have now won five and lost five of their 11 games this calendar year as their season hits a difficult spell, both domestically and in Europe.

Mbappe has been in impressive form this season, scoring 25 times for the Parisians. His quality was broadcast to the globe with a World Cup final hat-trick for France that saw him win the Golden Boot, even if he did miss out on the main prize.

The PSG star told Canal+ after the defeat, which ended PSG's 40-match unbeaten run at the Parc des Princes:“You have to be positive, with what I’ve seen, there’s room. We have seen that we were able to put Bayern in difficulty. All our players must be in good health and we will go there in Munich to do it (qualify).”

His team-mate Danilo Pereira added: "We played a good game, but Bayern was a little superior. We are going to Munich to win this match. We have a big team, a big collective, we must not be afraid to be more offensive. We were very good in the last 15 minutes with Kylian on.

“We must not be afraid and we must be more offensive. In the last 15 minutes we were very good. We have to do more offensively. A comeback in Munich against Bayern? Yes I think it is possible.”
