Police have successfully recovered thousands of stolen Cadburys Creme Eggs after an "eggs-travagent theft".

Easter has been saved for Creme Eggs fans after 200,000 were found after being stolen from a unit in Telford last week (Saturday, February 11).

The popular Easter treats were said to be worth around a whopping £40,000.

Alongside, the easter eggs other chocolate varieties were also stolen.

In a Twitter post, West Mercia Police said: "The eggs-travagent theft took place on Saturday 11 February with the chocolate collection box thought to be worth around £40,000.

"Shortly after the theft a vehicle, presumably purporting to be the Easter bunny, was stopped northbound on the M42 and a 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of theft."

Many online found the crime amusing and joked on Twitter.

One user said: "Eggcellent work by all involved."

While another joked: "Must have been a gang of hard-boiled crooks to commit such a fowl deed."

Another commented: "Valentine's day in custardy and flat as a pancake when he gets his just desserts next week. Eggcellent police work cracking result!"

While another said: "That thief defo smells like eggy farts."

Joby Pool, 32, of no fixed abode, has been charged with criminal damage and two counts of theft.

He is due to appear at Kidderminster Magistrates’ Court today.
