Dermot O'Leary and Josie Gibson opened Tuesday's This Morning by announcing the ITV show had been enlisted to help viewer Dan with the romantic proposal he'd planned for his girlfriend Ellen.

Dan had whisked Ellen away to London for Valentine's Day but as she enjoyed her breakfast she was blissfully unaware that she was live on This Morning and surrounded by actors.

As the dancers sprung into action, a waiter performed a rendition of Bruno Mars' Marry You.

Dan got down on one knee as the actors revealed their tops with the words "Will you marry me?" emblazoned on them.

The boyfriend began: "Since the day I met you, Ellen, you have made me so happy."

"Every day, you're perfect. I just want to spend the rest of my life with you, which is why I want to ask you to marry me," he added.

The couple broke down in tears as Ellen cried out: "Yeah!"

In the studio, Josie struggled to control her emotions and began fanning away tears from her eyes.

"That was beautiful," Josie commented as Dermot agreed: "Oh we are welling up over here!"

"A massive congratulations to you, Ellen, how are you feeling?" Josie asked.

"Oh my goodness, I am so shocked! I can't stop crying," Ellen replied before Josie added: "Well we have another surprise for you. How would you like to finish off your date, live in the This Morning studio."
