Dog sanctuary's oldest pooch named Bruno is desperate for a final forever home

A dog charity is desperately searching for a new home for one of its long-term residents who has been without a family in 13 years.

Bruno the Staffordshire bull terrier is the oldest resident at the Dogs Trust in Loughborough, which is trying to find him a permanent place for him.

The charity, which has nine old dogs living at the centre just outside Wymeswold, says the rising costs of food and bills are forcing people to hand over their dogs and it's reducing the chances of dogs like Bruno finding homes.

Centre manager Celine Di Crocco said: "We believe that Bruno has so much love left to give and would make a perfect companion for the right family. We urge anyone who has the space and patience to provide him with a forever home to get in touch.

"Bruno is a sweet and sensitive boy who would thrive in a quiet and calm environment. He can live with adults only and potentially other animals in his new home. Although he would need to be the only dog in the house, he could still enjoy socialising with other dogs while on walks."

Bruno has been described by foster carers as a "couch potato" and enjoys cuddling up with human friends, as well as exploring the outdoors and playing fetch.

Celine added: "Our senior dogs have so much to offer and are often overlooked due to their age. With their gentle nature and loyal personalities, senior dogs like Bruno have so much love to give."

Dogs Trust Loughborough is also calling on people to come forward as volunteer fosterers to offer temporary homes for dogs like Bruno until their new permanent homes can be found, LeicestershireLive reports.

Fosterers free up room in the kennels so more dogs can be supported, and giving dogs the chance to receive some extra love in a home environment, which is particularly important for older dogs and those recovering from veterinary treatment.
