easyJet passengers departing or arriving into Liverpool this week may get a fun surprise from cabin crew – who will be dressing up in iconic Eurovision outfits ahead of the competition's final this weekend.

The airline polled 2,000 Brits, aged 18-65, to find out what they consider to be the most memorable outfits from the archives of the popular song competition.

British winners Bucks Fizz, from 1981, topped the list, with 77% voting for the group's retro look in primary colours.

Fan favourites ABBA, who won the competition in 1974, came in a close second, with 73% of the vote, while Irish duo Jedward's outlandish, holographic outfits from 2012 took third place (46%).

And easyJet, a national sponsor of this year's Eurovision Song Contest, have taken the results of the poll as inspiration – to dress up in some of the fan favourite outfits to surprise passengers.

The international competition is being hosted in the UK this year for the ninth time in its 67-year history, on behalf of last year's winners, Ukraine – with the grand final to be held on Saturday, May 13th.

So far, on board easyJet flights in and out of Liverpool this week, cabin crew member Aimee has dressed up like ABBA lead singer, Agnetha Fältskog, donning her famous glitzy blue satin and suede jumpsuit, complete with knee-high silver platform boots.

And fellow crew member Taylor embraced Ireland’s Jedward, who wore a futuristic holographic all-in-one outfit in 2012, whilst Amanda channelled Ukraine’s Ruslana, who sported a quirky leather and fur costume.

Ruslana won the 2004 contest with her song Wild Dances, which scored 280 points – which at the time was a record-breaking result.

And some staff on flights into and out of the host city this week will even be performing a tongue-in-cheek, Eurovision-inspired safety announcement.

Research by easyJet also revealed that over two in five Brits (43%) will be partying this Eurovision weekend, with a third (32%) planning to pay homage to their favourite acts of bygone years by dressing up in iconic competition looks.

The top outfit choices fans are likely to pick for Eurovision weekend include Bucks Fizz (43%), ABBA (38%), and Ruslana (10%).

Nearly two-thirds (63%) said that they are more excited about the competition this year, as it lands on UK shores – and almost half (48%) cited the outrageous fashion as their favourite thing about the competition.

Michael Brown, from easyJet, said: “We couldn’t be prouder to be a national sponsor of this incredible event, that brings together people from many different cultures in celebration of the universal language of music.

“Like this iconic competition, easyJet connects people, cultures, and communities across Europe and beyond – in fact, easyJet operates more seats between the UK and Eurovision countries than any other airline.

“So we are incredibly excited to play a role in this year’s event, which is much loved by our people, as well as millions of our customers throughout Europe.

“And our crew couldn’t resist the opportunity to celebrate the competition in our own way – taking to the runway in the most iconic Eurovision looks of all time.

“We have a long history with the host city of Liverpool, and are the city’s largest airline, so we are really excited to be getting passengers flying with us from Liverpool John Lennon Airport this week into the Eurovision spirit.”

To celebrate, easyJet are offering up to 20% off selected flights, until May 15th.
