Queen Consort Camilla has tested positive for Covid after developing cold symptoms, Buckingham Palace has said.

She had been expected to visit Elmhurst Ballet School, in Birmingham, to celebrate the school's centenary before heading to Southwater One Library in Telford - but these engagements will now be re-arranged.

It was previously said the royal - the second wife of King Charles III - had pulled out of the visits due to a "seasonal illness".

The Queen Consort is said to be in good spirits and resting and is disappointed not to be able to fulfil her engagements.

The Palace said in a statement: "After suffering the symptoms of a cold, Her Majesty The Queen Consort has tested positive for the Covid virus.

"With regret, she has therefore cancelled all her public engagements for this week and sends her sincere apologies to those who had been due to attend them."

On Wednesday, she was due to host a reception at Clarence House to celebrate the second anniversary of her Reading Room book club.

And on Thursday, she was scheduled to join King Charles on a trip to Milton Keynes to celebrate its new city status.

Her last engagement was last Thursday, where she visited Storm Family Centre, a charity supporting domestic abuse survivors in south London.

Almost exactly a year ago to the day, it was announced by Buckingham Palace that Camilla had tested positive for Covid.

It came after her husband Charles contracted the virus for a second time, and sources said Camilla was "triple vaccinated".

However, afterward, she was forced to miss an event after still suffering the after-effects of the virus.

She later revealed she had been left with a slight cough in the aftermath.

When she met a group of record-breaking charity rowers at Clarence House, she told them: "Well, it's taken me three weeks and I still can’t get shot of it.

"Probably my voice might suddenly go coughing and spluttering."
