A tour guide has revealed he cleaned up the grave of Princes William and Harry’s gran in the run up to the King's coronation ceremony.

Darryl Holdnall said he was saddened when he found the neglected and weather-beaten resting place of Frances Shand Kydd – Princess Diana’s mother and the King’s former mother-in-law.

Shand Kydd was laid to rest in Pennyfuir Cemetery in Oban, Argyll, following her death in 2004 at the age of 68 in a funeral attended by both princes.

She died at her home in Seil following a long battle with Parkinson’s disease and brain cancer.

Darryl, 51, who runs Spirit of Selkie, told the Daily Record : “I wanted to make her grave matter again ahead of coronation celebrations."

He added: “When I went up, there were some withered flowers that were all a bit mangled and a few weeds.

"But I cleared it all away and got some fresh flowers, a card and a Union flag.

“I was a bit sad when I found it because of all the stuff she did and what happened in her life.

"The stone is only 19 years old and it’s already battered as it’s right on the coastline.

“It’s a bit disappointing that her grandchildren have not been up and organised something.

"So I thought it was important that she was remembered properly.

"Without her we wouldn’t have William or Harry.”
