Eva Green wins multimillion pound High Court battle over collapse of sci-fi film
Actress Eva Green said "justice prevailed" after winning her High Court battle with a production company over the collapse of a sci-fi film.
The star, 42, was supposed to play the lead role in the movie A Patriot but the movie ceased production in October 2019.
She sued the production company White Lantern Film, claiming she was entitled to her one million dollar (£810,000) fee for the abandoned project despite its cancellation.
In turn, White Lantern brought a counterclaim against the French actress, alleging that she undermined the independent film’s production.
In a judgment on Friday, Mr Justice Michael Green ruled in Ms Green’s favour, stating she was entitled to the fee and dismissed the counter-claim.

“In particular, I find that Ms Green did not renounce her obligations under the artist agreement; nor did she commit any repudiatory breaches of it,” the judge said.
The actress released a statement afterwards saying: "I fought tooth and nail to defend the beautiful film that I loved and had signed on for.
“A film that spoke of a cause I hold dear – climate change and warned of the resource wars and mass migration that would occur if we don’t address the problem. I stood my ground, and this time, justice prevailed.”

She sued the production company (Getty Images For Disney Studios)White Lanter had claimed she made “excessive creative and financial demands” and had expectations that were “incompatible” with the film’s low budget.
Ms Green had denied undermining the production and told the court "they made it fail on their own with their incompetence".
She previously said she "fell in love" with the thriller movie, in which she was cast as soldier Kate Jones, after she read director Dan Pringle's "brave and daring" script.
Edmund Cullen KC, for Ms Green, had told the court that she was subjected to “character assassination”.
He added that it was “based on some of the cheapest and nastiest sorts of stereotypes around”.
Earlier this year, movie's writer and director Pringle gave evidence and claimed Ms Green's payment ended up interfering with efforts to get the project made.

"I didn’t know her well enough to know how serious she was being with some of her suggestions”, he explained.
He explained that some of her suggestions were 'crazy' and 'Hail Marys'.
The court heard that Ms Green called potential crew members “shitty peasants”, the production as a “B-shitty-movie” and executive producer Jake Seal as “pure vomit”.
However, the actress told the judge she simply had a "very direct way of saying things".
She claimed the team didn't call her to the studio for stunt training or rehearsals, describing it as "so strange".
She said: “If I had been called to set, I would have done this film even though it would have been a disaster.”
