'I didn't clean make-up brushes and ended up with ringworm – the pain was awful'

An influencer has shared her 'terrifying' ordeal after noticing her skin "flaring up" in painful-looking rashes.

Louaria, from the UK, didn't think much of the rash initially, but then she quickly learned there was something more sinister at play.

The rash started spreading across her face, and she "couldn't smile" because she was in so much "pain". After finding out the cause, she is now warning others about cleaning their make-up brushes.

Louaira initially explained that doctors "didn't know" what it was. Taking to TikTok, she explained the awful ordeal.

After going to her GP, she explained they gave her a whole host of options of what it could be, including discoid eczema or Steven-Johnson syndrome.

In her initial video, the frustrated influencer said: "I'm in pain. I can't smile or laugh because it hurts.

"I was crying on the bus on my way home and because my tears are salty, it started to sting."

Over the next few days Louaira explained that the excruciating rashes were spreading across her face and she was "super uncomfortable".

Eventually, with the help of her social media followers, the influencer found out the cause of the issue, and was horrified. She had ringworm which was caused by her "dirty make-up brushes".

In a separate video, Louaira explained: "I know sharing is caring but best believe I'm not letting anyone touch my makeup brushes, or sponges, or any form of make-up again, because this is ringworm from someone who has clearly been using my stuff."

The brunette then posted before-and-after pictures of her skin online, with the warning: "Your sign to clean EVERYTHING, especially make-up brushes, sponges and towels."

She then posted pictures of how the marks began appearing as little red spots, which she likened to "burn marks".

The pictures became dramatically worse over the course of a few days, showing angry-looking, flaky patches of skin, which she explained were caused by ringworm, also known as Tinea Faciei.

Because of the video clip, many shocked followers decided to clean their brushes. One person wrote: "Yup…. THAT'LL DO IT! Cleaning my brushes rn."

Another commented: "I will be cleaning my sponge and brushes that I haven't cleaned in over a year, tomorrow…"

"New fear unlocked, said a third.

Contrary to common belief, ringworm isn't actually caused by worm, but is a fungal infection which causes scaly, dry, swollen and itchy rashes, which can appear anywhere on the body.

It can be passed on through close contact with an infected person, or infected objects such as bedsheets or towels, but can be treated with medicine.

After getting treatment, the rash has started to heal, and she is going to try various products to try to get rid of the pigmentation and scarring.
